Description:
The Lab Technician provides essential technical support and operational assistance across various campus laboratories and workshops, including those focused on CM, CNC,and general MakerSpace activities. This role is crucial for ensuring a safe, functional, and productive learning and creation environment for students, faculty, and staff. The Lab Technician will assist users, maintain equipment, and support lab operations under the guidance of faculty or lab managers.
Responsibilities:
- Assist students, faculty, and other lab users with the safe and effective operation of lab equipment, including CM, CNC machinery, 3D printers, laser cutters, and other MakerSpace tools.
- Provide basic guidance and troubleshooting for common software and hardware issues related to lab equipment.
- Enforce lab rules, safety protocols, and proper equipment usage.
- Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of lab equipment.
- Monitor equipment performance and identify issues, coordinating with supervisors for advanced repairs.
- Assist with the setup, operation, and shutdown of various lab systems and machinery.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe laboratory environment.
- Manage and track lab supplies and consumables, assisting with inventory and ordering processes.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, including proper disposal of waste materials.
- Assist with documentation related to lab procedures, equipment manuals, and safety guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Must have entry-level ability to write CNC programs.
- Have an entry-level ability to set up CNC machines.
- Must be willing and able to interact with others in a team setting, be able to motivate others and remain positive while working in a group work environment.
- Candidate must be enrolled in one of the CNC classes or have successfully completed CNC classes at SUU.
